Ecocity Valdesparteras
Valdespartera is one of the most important projects involving state-subsidised housing on a national basis according to the criteria of environmental sustainability. It is located within a part of the city that has seen the most dynamic growth over the last ten years; owing to its communication possibilities, such a situation with respect to strategic development provides the necessary encouragement to reserve ground in the area for general city networks, in the hope of avoiding excessive dependence by the city centre on these new areas, offering an alternative on the outskirts, and also as a complement to it.
The project radically changes the dominant consumer culture, rendering it much more rational. The two trends that are essential for sustainable development are: to save more and to waste less. Thus, by means of telemanagement and the awareness of consumption incorporated in Valdespartera, active policies are implemented that encourage the reduction of pollution and insist on the saving of resources, water, energy supplies, materials thanks to the good habits practised by the citizen, who becomes the principal actor when it comes to reducing the ecological footprint.
