Re-Mar. Strategy of Ecological Regeneration of the Coastal Edge of Corunna
The recent call of a contest of ideas for the renewal of the coastal edge of the inlet of the Orzán (Corunna) was a big opportunity to think about the relation of the city with the sea.
Taking advantage of this opportunity of reflection, it was presented a Strategy with a group of measures and criteria of reference for the transformation of the urban maritime edge as a whole, with a main aim in the Ecological Regeneration of the seaside and the improvement of its integration in the urban structure. To reach this aim, the measures and interventions applied to the structure, the configuration and the social use of the public space were organized around three big action areas:
In a cyclic approach of the processes of urban evolution, this Strategy proposed a temporary projection of 20 years, in order to reach in a progressive and gradual way, three future stages: in the short term, cleaning and collective planning; in the medium tem, promoting the change and finally, and finally in the long term, the consolidation and enjoyment of the new city.
The jury of the contest rewarded the proposal, standing out its good landscape integration, the improvement of quality and quantity of green zones, its environmental aspects and the implementation of under-used areas for citizen benefit.
